The Real Reason iPod Touch Did Not Get a Camera
Why did the iPod nano get a video camera but not the iPod touch? You have to think back a little bit to 2006, let me refresh your memory. In 2006 the iPod Touch did not exist but the iPod classic did, it was $299. Then, Microsoft announced their Zune MP3 player to compete directly with the classic, it was going to be priced at $299. Apple retalieted by dropping the price of the classic to $249, a move Microsoft had to match if they wanted to stay competitive. Now lets come back to 2009, Microsoft announced their Zune HD for $219 to compete directly with the iPod touch priced at $229. Apple once again stirred things up by dropping the price on its device to $199, the only thing is, with the price drop, they now could not afford to include the video camera on the iPod touch. So there you have it, I think that is the real reason why the iPod touch does not have a camera today. As reported elsewhere, the iPod touch has a space reserved on the circuit board for a camera. Will it get one in the future? Absolutely.
I further believe that Apple's tagline for the "It's only rock and roll, but we like it" event would have been something along the lines of "iPods get a free video camera," meaning, iPod nano and touch now include a video camera for the same price.

Apple September 9 Event
The big announcement really was the iPod nano with video recording and a 2 megapixel camera for $149 for the 8GB and $179 for a 16GB model. The prices are really good and the new colors are very eye-catching. Another major announcement was iTunes 9 with a cleaner interface and App management for iPhone/iPod Touch. I believe there will be another update to the iPhone software on September 25 when MMS comes to the iPhone and it will include some cool features.

Celebrate with a Free Madonna Video
Switching gears to an entertainment entry, iTunes is giving away Madonna's brand new video for her new single 'Celeration.' All you have to do is follow the link below or go to iTunes and look it up. I expect it to be free until this next Monday 7.

All Zunes Are Discontinued: Does Anybody Care?
Microsoft announced today that they are dropping all current models of their Zune line of MP3 players. They will apparently concentrate on the upcoming Zune HD that will be released in about two weeks. The iPod Touch, its direct competitor (if you can call this a competition), is strongly expected to be refreshed on Sept. 9. With a possible camera or even a video camera integrated and maybe a lower price, the Zune HD may be obsolete on arrival.

Apple Sept. 9 event
Apple will have one of their famous invitation only event on Wednesday September 9. The invitation simply reads "It's only rock & roll, but we like it." It obvioulsy is going to be a music-centric event. What will be announced is anybody's guess, but if I had to speculate...
*iPod refresh for nano and Touch with cameras.
*Updat to iTunes with new features, maybe subscription model for iPhone.
*The Beatles on iTunes, it's the same day remasters and Rockband debut.
*OS X 3.1 for iPhone and Touch
*Steve Jobs back onstage
Less likely is the much rumored Apple tablet, sorry but I just don't see it happening next Wednesday. Perhaps early next year when Verizon gets their 4G network up and running.
That is also when I expect a new iPhone. There is a reason the iPhone 3GS looks identical to the 3G and that is to wow with a new look for their Verizon and possibly Sprint or T-Mobile launch.
